How To Reduce Your Water Bill

Are you trying to lower your monthly expenses?  Are you trying to squeeze every penny from your budget? Whether you are trying to save up for a big purchase, or just more spending money, there are many ways you can save.  Reducing your monthly water bill not only helps you, but is environmentally responsible as well. You can be surprised how big of a difference small actions can do to lessen your expense.  Here are some of the best tips to save money by reducing your water bill.

Be smart about running the tap

We leave the tap flowing when we are doing things in the sink.  It is something that we are very used to doing. We leave it running when doing the dishes.  We do the same when we brush our teeth. When we are soaping our hands, or any item we are washing, the water is constantly flowing.  Be conscious and have the habit of shutting it down. You will be surprised how much water is saved.

Running the tap to wait for cold or hot water also consumes more water than needed.  If you are looking for cold water, keep some water bottles in the refrigerator. For warm water, you can heat some in the microwave.

Fix the leaks

Not all leaks are noticeable.  This is especially true for leaks that do not have a sound.  Leaky faucets or pipes will continuously spill water until fixed.  This not only raises your consumption, but can damage the nearby area as well.  It is a good idea to replace the washers and gaskets of faucets every few years to avoid this.

Change how you use the dishwasher and washing machine

Waiting until you can run a full load uses less water as compared to multiple smaller loads.  For dishes, hand wash them if you have a few dishes only. For laundries, use cold water. It lessens the use of water and electricity and cleans just as well.

DIY your pipes and toilet to use less water

If you are handy with the tools, you can DIY some of the items in your home to save water.  Try insulating your pipes by wrapping them in foam. You can purchase foam already in the shape of your pipes for easy installation.  This will help heat water faster.

You can make your toilet use less water as well.  Try adding water bottles partially filled with sand or stones inside the tank.  This rises the water level with less water. You will need to see how much you will need to add in and adjust accordingly.
